So remember the picture below and how I described myself as "cracked out of my mind"?
Well it turns out that I wasn't the only thing that was cracked. Recall that crash at the end of Stage 1. After inspection, I thought the frame had miraculously survived and that it was safe to ride for stages 3 and 4. I was wrong. When prepping the bike for PIR on Tuesday afternoon I found something that made my heart sink. Right at the headtube/downtube there's tiny spiderweb cracks about 3" along the downtube on both sides of the bike. Oh, and a crack in the top of the headtube and another 1.5" one on the driveside chainstay. Well crap, that's toast.
I typically don't list names but I feel this is warranted, forgive me. Mr. Joseph Skokan, this is me calling you out. You need to learn to ride a bike safely. A rider in an orange jersey didn't cross your wheel, you caused the Stage 1 crash. This crash resulted in two destroyed frames and at least half dozen people on the ground. Granted, apart from from some road rash and deep bruising we're all ok. I do realize you went down too and I hope you're healing quickly. In the future, please just relax, look, signal and SMOOTHLY make a move. I see you're registered for Tour of Walla Walla and I wish you the best of luck. That said, I'm going to tell every single rider there that they don't want to be anywhere near you.
Rant over. Below is the replacement bike. Yes, it's aluminum. No, it's not the superbike the Jamis was; that will by no means stop me from riding this thing just as hard. My only hope is that this one lasts more than 9 months.
