Hood River Double Cross: Day 2

Today is what I was talking about when I said "missing the train."  Today's course was still very similar to yesterday's, just reversed.  Some sand, lots of single track and me losing a lot of time because I don't ride mountain bikes.  I don't say this to sound melodramatic but it just is what it is.  Some courses suit me and some don't.  This weekend's courses didn't.

Today's course was essentially split equally between singletrack and power.  As usual, I struggled through the technical sections but never put myself in a good position to latch on to any of the riders who passed.  At one point I was riding in 5th position but I slowly bled wheels, finally ending up 10th on the day.  I'm not super happy about the result as you always look at what could have been.  More than anything I need to work on grabbing wheels and not letting them go until I'm cross-eyed and my legs are begging for mercy.

Normally I would insert a remark about needing a mountain bike here or how using a different (borrowed) rear brake isn't the best idea but those are just excuses.  I need to focus on riding the technical stuff and not give up wheels as easily.

There weren't any pictures available at the time of this posting but I'll post them as I find them.

Next week:  Zaandercross in Vancouver, WA.  I'm looking forward to this one and hoping to come away with a satisfactory result.
